Sue and Hayley join giant memory walk

A Gilwood Lodge resident and staff member joined a stroll along Blackpool Promenade with a difference to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.

Gilwood activities coordinator Hayley Price walked resident Sue Green along the prom for the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk on October 8th.

The huge charity event – which attracted an incredible 2,500 participants – was just one of the many Memory Walks across the nation.

Says Hayley: “The Memory Walk was brilliant and we covered a massive 7.5km and raised £80 thanks to kind donations from residents and staff.

“Sue had an amazing time and she was so pleased when she received a medal.”

The Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walks are being held this autumn to unite against dementia, and to raise awareness and funds for people affected by the condition.

This year an estimated 110,000 people will take part in the walks, raising more than £9million to help those affected by dementia.

Illuminations highlight for Gilwood residents

Gilwood Lodge residents’ faces lit up with a trip along Blackpool’s world-famous Illuminations.

The group from Gilwood Lodge enjoyed a colourful coach ride along the lights and tucked into sweet treats including doughnuts and candy floss.

At 10km long and using over one million bulbs on more than 500 scenic designs and features, the Blackpool Illuminations are a fabulous annual autumn spectacle.

With its prime location in Blackpool’s South Shore area, Gilwood Lodge is just a few streets away from the resort’s famous Promenade and golden sands, and is close to many of Blackpool’s popular attractions.
